How much are coaches paid?

Parents purchase 1 session at a time for $45 per session. For the first 10 sessions booked, coaches are paid $35. The 11th session and beyond will earn coaches $40 per session. Payments are made to coaches, by StarterCoach, either by direct deposit weekly or bi-weekly by check.

How much should I expect to make through StarterCoach?

This will depend on 3 primary factors - the amount of people in your area with kids in need of help, the amount of hours you are available to be booked, and how well the StarterCoach program is implemented. For example, a coach with 20 available hours per week with 50% of them booked would earn $350 during that week. Offering more or less hours, or a different booking percentage will directly effect the amount of income you can earn. After your 10th session completed through StarterCoach, you are paid $40 per session!

What does StarterCoach do with the rest of the fee?

Most of it is spent on marketing. Once coaches register and enroll in the certificaton course, StarterCoach begins marketing your geographic area for parents and kids that may benefit from the 1-on-1 coaching programs offered. This is so you have plenty of clients to fill your calendar, allowing you to focus solely on coaching. As you gain more clients, less marketing is required. When you have successfully completed 10 sessions, your pay rate goes from $35 to $40 per session. In addition to marketing, The site itself requires extensive upkeep and maintenance. Most of which is handled with fees that coaches do not have to pay.

Why is "certification" required by StarterCoach?

A number of coaches interested in offering this kind of service already have significant coaching experience. So why is a certification course required? Those with the most experience can certainly understand that there is always more to learn. But more to the point, parents need to be assured that they are hiring individuals that have been screened, trained, and approved by others. Certification training allows all coaches to have the same basic knowledge of what is expected regardless of the years experience you may have, giving parents the assurance they deserve.

Are coaches expected to provide a location for training sessions?

Coaches are not expected to provide a location. However, if you have access to a gym, and parents are willing to transport their child to that location, that is fine. But a big selling point of this type of program for parents is the convenience. The preferred location for 1-on-1 sessions is at the clients house or a local neighborhood court or field. Parents are required to include a suggested location when they book an appointment. Depending on the sport, the location will matter more or less. Baseball coaching may require a larger open space than basketball perhaps. A future enhancement to the site planned is to offer a location finder for coaches and parents to use based on the sport. Outside sites already offer such finders (courtsoftheworld.com, planjam.com just to mention a couple).

Do I have to provide a background check?

StarterCoach will search your background using any of a few nationally recognized services. This is a requirement as you will be working with children. The cost associated with this requirement is included in your membership fee, regardless of the outcome. You can request a free copy of your personal background check once StarterCoach has completed its review.

Can I use my own training program?

Having a wide variety of training methods available from a an equally wide variety of coaches is a big plus for StarterCoach. So, yes. You are encouraged to add your own drills and methods. However, there are a few consistent characteristics expected in each StarterCoach training program. The details are outlined in the certification course, and are designed to help keep training sessions moving, fun, focused, and effective. Once you complete your certification, feel free to submit video demonstrations to StarterCoach. They may be added to the learning library for other coaches.

Do I have to accept every appointment?

Your schedule is your schedule. StarterCoach allows you to publish an available schedule for booking by parents. You can change that schedule as often as you like, blocking out entire days, weeks, or just an hour here and there. The booking system requires that all sessions be booked with at least 24 hours advance notice to you. Once a session is booked, you will have the chance to confirm with the parent.
